Professor Obama
55
I honestly believe that Senator Obama is not a racist. It would seem with his heritage racism would be impossible. I also agree with his assertion that white Americans can never understand the black experience in this country, in that the experience includes continuous discrimination. I am not sure I agree that on-going discrimination based on skin color is still prevalent in our culture. Of course it stills happens, but I believe it to be the exception rather than the rule.
What I don't think happened in Senator Obama's history lecture on the evolution of slavery in this country was an explanation of twenty years of fiscal, emotional and moral support for Reverend J. Wright. But then, Senator Obama should not have to explain to anyone a matter of personal faith. I will admit being extremely impressed with the speech, especially considering he wrote it himself. Listening and watching Senator Obama took me back to better, simpler times when passing the next test or saving enough money for the weekend party was all I really had to worry about. I felt like I was in college and reviewing an important subject I had badly misunderstood. I was shocked to learn, from Professor Obama, that hate, anger, and aggression is the Christian doctrine preached from the majority of predominately black churches all over this country. Quite honestly, I do not believe Senator Obama to be correct. Christianity is devoid of hate. A true believer would never condone, support or tolerate hate as a foundation for life in Jesus Christ.
I believe Senator Obama to be a good man, but he is not a perfect man, despite what the main-stream- media would have us believe. I believe Senator Obama made an intelligent, calculated decision on where to attend church. It was a career move, based on cultural needs for a successful political opportunity. I do not know about his religious beliefs, based on what we've all heard concerning Reverend Wright's opinions about Christ, whites, and America, and the fact that he is Mr. Obama's self proclaimed spiritual guide; I will take Senator Obama at his word and believe he is a Christian.
Senator Obama's choice of churches and preachers does not make him a bad person. It makes him a politician. Just like all the rest of our elected officials. Why does Senator Obama wants to be president? Most reason, I'm sure, are patriotic and honorable, but, he is human. His lust for power and position is certainly part of the package. This controversy is in fact the first glimpse of who the front running Democrat really is. It gives us an idea about how he will react in difficult times. How much do we really know about this man, except that he's very smart? Smarter probably than everybody, what does he believe in? Does it matter, what he believes in?
He only wants to be President of the United States.

Obama is not a perfect man, but he is a more perfect and much smarter man than John McCain.
Apparently in your mind being a Democrat is the same as being a socialist. I can only speculate where you got that idea.
Just out of curiosity, do you even know what Obama's program is? If you do why don't you tell us which of his policies you disagree with and why instead of mistakenly calling him a socialist.
Your Hub is very interesting. I have been having discussions with my conservative parents about the impact of Obama's minister's statements on his candidacy.
At least you are talking about the issues. However, there is an error in your statement that Obama would fix Social Security by "raising the payroll taxes of all Americans." Obama's proposal would raise the payroll taxes only on people earning more than $97,500, the top 6%. He proposes to eliminate the $97,500 cap on earnirngs subject to Social Security tax. This would mean that only high income people's FICA tax would be increased. This would mean that an individual earning $1 million would pay the same percentage of his earnings for Social Security tax as someone earning $50,000--7.65% as I recall.
Also, it's not correct to say that Obama supports a "ban on guns." He supports stricter and more effective control of handguns and semi-automatic weapons.
this is too heavy for me...but very revealing..thanks..G-Ma :o) hugs
Do you have any expmples of Obama "not keeping his word" or "lying?" And where did you get your information on Obama's plans for a gun ban?
NcCain is the one who changes his position in order to kiss up to Jerry Falwell and the other nutbballs in the base of the GOP.
Here is the latest I've been able to find on McCain-Obama discussions on fund raising. It appears to me to me to be premature to talk about a "deal."

Second, I don't think it's accurate to say that Obama takes "over 50% of his campaign contributions from the people who pay the lobbyist." What you are saying is not clear. From what I've read, Obama, more than Clinton or McCain has received most of his contributions over the Internet from relatively small donors. I'll do some checking on this.
Here are some FACTS on Obama's campaign fund raising:

How about Ralph Nader?
everyone no matter where they come from or who...can be a racist...anyone that thinks otherwise has their head in the sand...he makes comments all the time about how white americans act if those comments were made by someone else it would cause a riot...wake up
Cherilee, you're dead wrong on that if you're talking about Obama. He's about as far from being a racist as anyone could be. The racists are the ones who keep playing out-of-context snippets from Rev. Wright's sermons in order to hurt Obama. You must not have listened to Obama's speech on race in America. It was amazing.
I do agree that nearly everyone, black, white, brown or yellow, has feelings about race that they do not express in civilized company. However, racial tolerance and mutual respect in America has increased greatly in my lifetimg (72 years).
Mr. Blangrehr, we can agree on Ralph Nader. If he hadn't run in 2000 Al Gore would be president today rather than George Bush and our country's condition would be quite different.
Amen, Ralph!
I disagree on Senator Obama’s position on gun control, or actually his position in support of a ban on guns, period. -blangrehr--
Me too, it is our right to bare arms- I don't cause I don't want one, but it's a law to protect ourselves againts a corrupt government in the event that our government becomes tyrinacle.
Obama also being Christian sends a red flag. Not because I believe he is a hateful man or anything like that, but it's the other side of Christianity that might feel empowered to do bad things, you know?
Obama could have been more effective if he had kept is religion and politics seperate, though I can't say I know all the circumstances about how this came about.
How knows really.
yaps i agree
You're right about Senator obama making a calculated step to become a christian. No atheist has a chance in political life in the US. No atheist has ever become president. If Sen. Obama was following some heartfelt mission to find salvation, i hardly think he would have ended up on the doorsteps of jeremiah Wright. and then not listened to him for 20 yrs. What my spiritual mentor says is very, very important to me. I follow it very carefully. Unfortunately, in the case of Spiritual teachers, there have been far too many of them who have gone "off the edge' and become enamoured of their power. Personally, I think that senator is a closet atheist. He was raised by his atheist mother and atheist grandparents.
